The Denehan surname and its variants

Margaret Everett introduces this site:

Denehan is the name of my maternal grandfather’s family, who, since the 1810s have lived in and around Edenderry, Co Offaly, Ireland. The name is rare, although there are some 15 or so variants according to John Grenham on his site johngrenham.com. On Griffith’s Valuation of 1847-64 there are just five Denehan families – one each in Limerick, Longford and Kildare and two in Offaly – the Offaly and Kildare ones being my ancestors. The most common variant is Deenihan which is mostly found in Co Kerry.

I’ve been building my family tree since 2008 and have gathered much data in that time. This study however, is very much in its infancy. I’d be delighted to hear from anyone who has an interest in this name: send me a message at Contact us.

This site is associated with my study of the Denehan name registered with the Guild of One-Name Studies.
